Offense Ignites In Volleyball's Sweep Of Oregon State

TEMPE, Ariz. - Sarah Reaves and Sara Todorovich anchored the Sun Devil offense Friday night with a combined 26 kills as ASU swept by the Oregon State Beavers to grab their first Pac-10 win of the season. The Sun Devils went on a 30-28, 30-24 and 30-20 rout of the Beavers to improve to 9-8 overall and 1-3 in the Pac-10. OregonState falls to 8-8 and 1-3 in conference play.


The Sun Devils came out strong in game one led by Marina Mercer's 13 assists and Staci Smith's five kills while fighting through six lead changes to take the lead with a 30-28 win. Game two saw Sarah Reaves come out blazing with a .385 attack percentage and eight kills as the Sun Devils came from behind to grab a second win with a 30-24 score. In both game one and two Sara Todorovich stepped up to grab the game winning kill.


Game three saw the Sun Devils take it home with a .355 attack percentage and Sarah Reaves' five kills. The Sun Devils and Beavers battled back and forth at the beginning of the game for the lead before ASU took it with a 15-14 lead and never looked back, sealing the win with a 30-20 in the final game. Sara Todorovich came through again in the clutch as she grabbed a solo block for the final ASU point in the match.


The Sun Devils will continue their Pac-10 schedule next weekend as they travel up to Pacific Northwest to take on Washington and WashingtonState next Thursday and Friday, October 4 and 5. Both games will be played at 7 p.m. PT.
