Oct. 1, 2007

LOS ANGELES -The UCLA women's tennis team has several players competing in this week's Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships hosted at the nearby Riviera Country Club.

The qualifying draw, which gets underway Tuesday, features Bruin singles players Yasmin Schnack and Ashley Joelson. Schnack is seeded fifth in the 64-player draw. Players need to win three singles matches in order to advance to Thursday's main draw.

UCLA also has two teams competing in the qualifying doubles draw at Riviera, as Elizabeth Lumpkin and Stephanie Wetmore join the team of Tracy Lin and Andrea Remynse in the 32-team field.

Both Lumpkin and Remynse competed in the pre-qualifying draw at UCLA over the weekend. Lumpkin, the No. 2 seed, was upset by Samantha Van Der Drift of Texas Tech, 6-4, 6-4 in the opening round. After winning two matches, Remynse came within a match of advancing to the qualifying draw, but fell to Duke's Reke Zsilinszka, 6-4, 6-1.

Lin and Riza Zalameda are already entered in the main singles draw at Riviera. Zalameda will also be teaming with Schnack in the main doubles draw.
