THIS WEEK IN PAC-10 FOOTBALL: A light week of action with three Pac-10 games, one nonconference game and three teams enjoying an open date. Conference play finds ARIZONA at OREGON STATE, ARIZONA STATE at WASHINGTON STATE and STANFORD at USC. UCLA hosts Notre Dame at the Rose Bowl and CALIFORNIA, OREGON and WASHINGTON have the week off. Here is a look at the games of Sat., Oct. 6 (ranking is the AP media Poll followed by the USA Today Coaches Poll and the Harris Interactive:

ARIZONA (2-3) at OREGON STATE (2-3) - 1:00 PDT/MST
- The Series: Arizona and Oregon Statehave met 30 times with the Wildcats holding a 20-9-1 series lead. However, after early UAdominance in the series, OSU has turned it around by winning seven of the last eight games. TheWildcats lead 9-6-1 in 16 games played in Oregon, including 8-5-1 at Reser Stadium. Oregon State haswon four of the last five at Reser, but Arizona took the most recent Corvallis meeting in 2005 (29-27). . . .Last Year: Oregon State and Arizona met at Tucson with the Beavers holding on to take a defensivestruggle by a 17-10 final. OSU TB Yvenson Bernard rushed for 107 yards and the Beaver defense shutdown the Wildcats offense. OSU limited UA to 13 first downs, 22 yards rushing, 183 yards total offenseand no offensive TDs (the Arizona touchdown came on a punt return for a score by Syndric Steptoe). Inaddition, the Beaver defense posted 11 tackles for loss and picked off two passes.

ARIZONA STATE (5-0) at WASHINGTON STATE (2-3) - 1:00 PDT/MST - FSN national cablecast -The Series: Arizona State and Washington State have met 33 times with the Sun Devils leading theseries 19-12-2. The teams have split 14 WSU home games 7-7. It has been a series of streaks. ArizonaState has won the last three games, Washington State the three before that, ASU the four before that,WSU the four before that and so on. The Cougars last victory in the series came at Pullman in 2003 (34-19). Sun Devil coach Dennis Erickson was the head coach at Washington State in 1987-88 and wasnamed Pac-10 Coach of the Year following the 1988 season with the Cougars. . . . Last Year: ArizonaState and Washington State met late in the season at Tempe with the Sun Devils rolling to a 47-14victory. ASU scored on seven of its first eight possessions and piled up 562 yards total offense. QB RudyCarpenter threw for 339 yards and three TDs to lead the Devils. The ASU defense limited WSU to 27yards rushing and 196 yards total offense. WSU QB Alex Brink had two TD passes to account for theCougar scoring.

STANFORD (1-3) at USC (4-0) - 4:00 PDT - Versus national cablecast - The Series: USC and Stanfordhave met 85 times dating to 1905 and every year since 1946 with the Trojans leading the series 58-24-3.USC has won the last five games with the last Stanford victory coming at Los Angeles in 2001 (21-16).The Trojans have been ranked in the top 10 in each of the last five meetings. . . . Last Year: USC andStanford met at Palo Alto with the Trojans blanking the Cardinal 42-0 to drop Stanford's record to 0-9.The No. 9-ranked Trojans got three TD passes from QB John David Booty, all in the second quarter, andCB Terrell Thomas returned a blocked field goal 71 yards for a TD. USC's defense limited Stanford to30 yards rushing and 208 yards total offense in pitching the shutout.

NOTRE DAME (0-5) at UCLA (4-1) - 5:00 PDT - ABC regional telecast - The Series: UCLA and NotreDame have met just three times with the Fighting Irish taking all three contests. All three of theprevious games have been in South Bend with Notre Dame prevailing in 1963, 1964 and last year. Thismarks just the second visit to the famed Rose Bowl by Notre Dame, but the first time was a classicmatchup. Notre Dame, coached by Knute Rockne and led by the fabled Four Horsemen, met Stanford,coached by Pop Warner and featuring Ernie Nevers, in the 1925 Rose Bowl Game. FB Elmer Laydenscored three touchdowns in leading the Irish to a 27-10 win. The victory gave Notre Dame its first-evernational championship. . . . Last Year: UCLA and Notre Dame met at South Bend with the Irishpulling out a dramatic 20-17 come-from-behind win. UCLA, behind QB Pat Cowan's two TD passes anda sturdy defensive effort, was clinging a 17-13 lead over the No. 10-ranked Irish late in the game. TheBruins were forced to punt and Notre Dame took over on its own 20-yard line with 1:18 to play and notime outs. It took Irish QB Brady Quinn just three plays to go 80 yards and pull out the game with a 45-yard TD pass to WR Jeff Samardzija with 27 ticks left on the clock. While Quinn passed for 304 yards,the Bruin defense sacked him five times and limited Notre Dame to just 41 yards rushing. The Irishdefense was stout as well in limiting UCLA to 26 yards rushing and 243 yards total offense.
