California Forward Alex Morgan Named Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- California freshman forward Alex Morgan has been named the Pac-10Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Sept. 25-Oct. 1, Commissioner Tom Hansen announcedtoday.Morgan, from Diamond Bar, Calif., notched four goals in two matches last week in leading the No. 22Golden Bears to an upset of previously unbeaten and top-ranked Santa Clara and a victory over SaintMary's.
The freshman opened the week netting a hat trick in California's win over St. Mary's, but her majorcontribution of the week would come as she struck the first blow in the Golden Bears 2-0 defeat ofthe top-ranked Santa Clara Broncos.
Morgan's four goals propelled her into the team lead in goals, as well as points. The forward now hasfive goals for 10 points on the season.
California (8-2-0) is currently in the midst of a three-game win streak as it takes this week off and willenter Conference play on Fri., Oct. 12, facing rival Stanford (9-1-0) in the marquee matchup of theweek.
This is Morgan's first weekly honor and the 17th all-time award for the Golden Bears.
