Courtney Crane on ASU Soccer: Sun Devils Offense Comes Alive
Oct. 2, 2007
Even with two shut-outs and a total of seven goals for the weekend the highlight of this week was welcoming Keegan Grace into the Sun Devil family! As most of you probably know our coach's baby was born and it is a beautiful baby girl with a head full of hair. In-fact, I believe that she and Kevin have the same hair-do going on, which is cute for now but I have a feeling that as she gets older she will begin to resent him if they continue to do their hair the same... The team got to meet Keagan on Saturday during practice and it was quite a treat. We got her some baby gifts (pink ASU gear of-course!!) and were excited to give them to the family. It was very cute to see Kevin with her; it looks like he is going to be a fantastic daddy!
Maybe Keegan brought us good luck or maybe we were just really dissappointed after our New Mexico game, but either way, this weekend we played really well. You see, we have been playing great the entire season but we haven't been scoring very many goals. Kevin got on us forwards before the game on Friday and told us that we needed to step it up and put some balls in the back of the net. If there is anything that I have learned this season about this team, it is that we know how to respond when we are challenged. That night the forwards, with the help of the team, scored three goals which put us 3-0 over SDSU. It felt really good to do what Kevin asked us to do.
Then, on Sunday, Kevin asked us to keep it rolling... so we scored 3 goals in one game but the question is, can we continue to do it? Well, so far so good because on Sunday we scored 4 more goals and kept Creighton at zero. Canada, our center back scored her first career goal during that game and we were all very excited for her! It felt great to sweep the weekend and even better to score a bunch of goals. We ended the weekend with a team potluck which was open to family and friends. It was awesome to get together with everyone and celebrate our successful weekend. My favorite part of the potluck was my mom's pumpkin cobbler and many other homemade goodies!
