USC's Amy Rodriguez Named To National Team Of The Week
Oct. 2, 2007
USC junior Amy Rodriguez was named to the SoccerBuzz Elite Team of the Week following a winning weekend with the Women of Troy. Rodriguez tallied an assist in USC's fifth straight shutout of the year - a 3-0 win over Long Beach State - and then notched the game-winning goal two days later to lift then-No. 14 USC to a 2-1 upset victory over then-No. 2 Portland.
With three goals and two assists this season, she is third on the team in scoring this season. The last time USC upended a top-10 team was in the 2006 NCAA First Round, as Rodriguez again delivered the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over host Santa Clara.
On Sunday against No. 2 Portland in the 69th minute, freshman Megan Ohai knocked a ball up the middle for Rodriguez. Rodriguez found another gear and blazed her way to the ball just ahead of the oncoming keeper, slotting the ball over her head and into the back of the net to lift the Trojans back on top 2-1. That goal would stand tall, holding strong as as Rodriguez' seventh career game-winner and lifting her to No. 6 all-time at USC.
Perhaps more importantly, it marked USC's eighth win of the season, giving the Trojans an 8-1-1 overall record as Pac-10 play approaches. USC has now risen to No. 7 in the latest SoccerBuzz national poll - the Trojans' highest rank since 2000.
This is Rodriguez's first career appearance on the SoccerBuzz Elite Team of the Week.
