Oct. 2, 2007
SEATTLE - The University of Washington softball team, fresh off a trip to the 2007 Women's College World Series, hosts the Louisville Slugger Northwest Classic this Friday - Sunday. Five teams are set to join UW for the three-day, 13-game tournament, including Central Washington University, Lower Columbia College, North Idaho College, Seattle University and Western Washington University. The Huskies will play five games, starting with a 2:30 p.m. game against Seattle on Friday.
Friday's matchup between UW and Seattle is the only scheduled game that day. Saturday and Sunday's action will start at 8 a.m., with games starting every one hour, 40 minutes after that. The last game of each day will start at 4:20 p.m.
Washington will play two games on both Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, UW hosts Central Washington at 2:40 p.m., and then plays North Idaho in the final game of the day at 4:20 p.m. On Sunday, the Huskies play Lower Columbia at 1 p.m., and Western Washington at 2:40 p.m.
The Huskies are coming off a stellar campaign in 2007, one in which they reached the WCWS for the eighth time in school history, and finished tied for third in the nation. Among the key returners this year will be senior shortstop Ashley Charters, who is a two-time All-American. Also back for UW, which went 42-18 in 2007, are senior outfielder Lauren Greer and junior outfielder Marnie Koziol. Both players were honorable mention All-Pac-10 selections a year ago.
