AROUND THE LEAGUE:

There is just one non-conference game on the docket this week as San Diego travels to UCLA (3-4-1) on Tues., Oct. 2 ... The rest of the weekend will feature highly anticipated Conference matchups beginning Fri., Oct. 5 as WASHINGTON (5-3-1) and OREGON STATE (3-5-0) travel to the Bay Area to take on CALIFORNIA (5-2-1) and STANFORD (3-2-3) ... The Bruins will travel to SAN DIEGO STATE (4-2-2) for a Saturday game against the Aztecs ... The Bears enter into Pac-10 action with the best record in the Conference (.688) and a three-game win streak ... FR F Davis Paul scored in double-overtime to give Cal the 1-0 victory over Towson on Saturday ... Paul's score came in the 108th minute as he headed it past the keeper, scoring his second goal on the year ... Paul is tied with three other Bears for the team lead in goals ... Oregon State is well-rested as its last game was a 1-0 win over Loyola (Md.) on Sat., Sept. 22 ... The Beavers rank second in the Pac-10 in shots as they average 15.12 per game ... It will be an interesting matchup this weekend as both Cal and Stanford have two of the stingiest defenses in the Conference, allowing just 0.62 and 0.88 goals per game, respectively ... San Diego State is unbeaten in its last five games, including four wins and a 0-0 double-overtime tie with No. 25 UC Irvine last Saturday ... The Aztecs have only surrendered one goal in that time period (vs. Drake), and are tied for second in the Pac-10 with four shutouts ... The Cardinal are coming off of a 0-0 double-overtime tie with the College of Charleston on Friday ... Stanford too has been difficult to score on as it ranks second in the Conference in goals against average (0.79), which comes in at No. 35 in the nation ... UCLA looks to get back on the winning track as it was defeated 3-0 by Cal State Northridge on Saturday ... The Bruins welcomed back SO F David Estrada to the lineup last weekend, as he had missed the first seven games with a fractured metatarsal ... Look for last season's Soccer America Freshman of the Year to work his way back into peak condition ... Washington, too, looks to regain its winning ways as it suffered a heartbreaker at No. 13 Creighton on Saturday, losing 2-1 in overtime ... SR F Ely Allen scored his third goal of the season and is now second on the team in goals and points (7) ... The Huskies, who lead the Pac-10 in goals (13) face two of the toughest defensive teams in the Conference this weekend ... Cal SO GK Stefan Frei and Stanford SR GK Andrew Kartunen rank 20th and 30th in the nation in goals against average with 0.592 and 0.73 marks, respectively.
