Women's Tennis Kicks Off Fall Season With Qualifying Play

STANFORD, Calif.- The Stanford women's tennis team kicked off its fall season on Tuesday with qualifying action at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif.

Senior Whitney Deason, the only Cardinal player entered in the singles draw, dropped a 6-0, 6-4 decision to Baylor's Lenka Broosova in the opening round.

Stanford's only doubles team of junior Jessica Nguyen and sophomore Lindsay Burdette suffered an 8-3 setback to UCLA's Elizabeth Lumpkin and Stephanie Wetmore in the first round.

The main singles and doubles draws are announced on Wednesday. Main draw competition begins Thursday.
