Clayton Wins Third Consecutive Match to Advance to Main Draw

Alex Clayton advanced to the main draw at the All-American Tennis Championships after advancing through the qualifying round with three wins. The Cardinal freshman beat Ed Corrie of Texas today, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the final qualifying round at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

Clayton will join junior Matt Bruch in the main draw, which runs Oct. 4-7. Bruch and teammate Blake Muller will compete in the doubles competition. They enter the year ranked No. 2 in the nation.

For Clayton, a freshman from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., today was his third win in as many days. He will open play in the main draw against Robbye Poole of Mississippi. Bruch will face Treat Huey of Virginia.

In a late doubles match on Tuesday, Bryan Koniecko and Steven Moneke of Ohio State beat Clayton and Richard Wire (S), 8-4, in the second round of qualifying.
