Cougars Travel to New York For USTA Women's College Invitational

PULLMAN, Wash. - This Week -- Washington State University will travel to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, in New York Oct. 6-8, to compete in the USTA NTC Women's College Tennis Invitational.
USTA NTC Women's College Tennis Invitational -- The tournament will consist of 16 plus teams...it will include four singles and two doubles flights...each participant will be scheduled to play a minimum of three singles and three doubles matches.
ITA All-American Championship Recap -- Ekaterina Burduli traveled to UCLA last weekend to compete in the ITA All-American Championship Sept. 29-30...she failed to advance to the qualifying round after falling to Duke's Tory Zawacki, 6-0, 6-3 in the first round of pre-qualifying...Burduli is ranked No.113 in the ITA pre season rankings...her four wins this season pushes her career total to 67, is good for ninth all time.
Cougar Classic -- The Cougars hosted the Cougar Classic Sept. 21-23, and came away with some impressive results...Marina Nicolas and Ekaterina Burduli captured singles championships for the team...Burduli won the No. 1 singles flight while Nicolas captured the No. 3 singles flight...Nicolas a freshman, is 4-0 early in the season and senior Burduli is 4-1.
Newcomers -- The Cougars have five freshmen who joined the team this year...Marina Nicolas leads the way with four victories...Jessica Gomez has three wins...Ekaterina Kamendova and Livia Gherman have captured two victories each...Jessica Casebier has reeled in one victory.
Tennis Dedication of Courts -- WSU officially dedicated the tennis courts inside Hollingbery Fieldhouse as 'The Simmelink Tennis Courts at Hollingbery Fieldhouse.' The ceremony honored supporter Audrey Simmelink for her generosity towards Cougar tennis and all Cougar athletics.
