Julie's Journal #1
Late September Entry #1 -
So this year is off to an awesome start so far! Practice started a couple days ago and we are already having a lot of fun. We began the first day of team practice a little different than we have in previous years. We were put into three groups and each group got to design a uniform. After the designs were made, we each got to vote on the uniforms. Coach [Diane Ninemire] said the winning uniform would get made! Erika [Racklin] invented the best uniform ever -- CAMO. It was a really awesome design, but sadly, no one voted on it. Anyway, it was just a fun and different way to get things started for us this year.
Practices have really begun on a strong note this year. We have been working on a lot of hitting drills, which everyone seems to be doing really well in. Most of the team goes up early to get extra practice in, which is a really good thing to see so early in the year. Weight training and conditioning has also been going well. Coach [Ken] Miller has us really working hard every day in conditioning. I can honestly say that he has already made a difference in everyone's fitness. He is really hoping that this year we will be in our best shape ever.
So we just had our first game this past weekend [Sept. 29] against CS Stanislaus in a nine inning affair. Even though we made a few mistakes, I thought we played really well as a team. After the game we hung out with the Stanislaus players and parents for a BBQ that they had prepared for all of us! We play this next weekend in Stockton [Oct. 5] and we are hoping to have a repeat performance of our first weekend.
