Clayton Now 5-0 After Two Wins at All-American Championships

Alex Clayton ran his singles record at Stanford to a perfect 5-0 after recording two more wins today at the All-American Championships at the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center. Clayton, a freshman from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., will play in the third round tomorrow. Junior Matt Bruch, however, was eliminated after losing his first round match.
Clayton advanced to today's main draw after winning three qualifying matches the past three days. He began the day by beating Robbye Pool of Mississippi, 6-2, 6-3 in the first round. He came back later in the second round and, after losing the first set, beat Denes Lukacs of Baylor, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.
Bruch, who is ranked No. 36 in the ITA pre-season poll, lost to Treat Huey of Virginia, 7-6 (4), 6-3. Bruch and Blake Muller were scheduled to play a first round doubles match Thursday evening.
