Oct. 4, 2007
Washington junior Danielle Lawrie is currently pitching for the Canadian National Women's Softball Team as the team gears up for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China. She will periodically be writing a blog to keep Husky fans up on her national team experiences. In this entry, Lawrie writes about the team arriving in China and the adventures they have had so far there.
Finally here. 12 and a half hour flight later and we made it. Its 5 in themorning right now and I'm wide awake. I have another 2 hours beforebreakfast starts so I thought I would write you all and let you knowwhats going on for the 2 weeks that I will be here. We got in yesterdayat 3 and had to wait around for about an hour and a half for the othergirls flying in from Toronto. Then it was about an hour drive from theairport to the hotel. We got to see the Olympic stadium that is prettymuch 100% done. Its awesome seeing the transformation from last summer tothis summer.
After we got to the hotel and set up in our one bedroom rooms we all had some dinner. You have to be pretty adventourous to eat the food over here and since I'm not I stuck to a couple bites of spagetti, 2 pieces of water melon and a couple rice cakes. Our plan for the week is practicing twice a day until Sunday and then we start playing next week against China, Australia, and Chinese Taipai. I will keep you guys updated on how everything is going. We actually get to head over to the Great Wall after our morning practice so it should be pretty cool!
Hope all is well in Seattle :)
