Freshman Alex Clayton lost to fourth seeded senior Travis Helgeson of Georgia 6-2, 6-2 today, bowing out in the quarterfinals of the All-American Championships in the University of Tulsa's Michael D. Case Tennis Center. The loss ended Clayton's six match win streak in the tournament and was the highly touted recruit from Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.'s first since donning the Cardinal.

Clayton won three matches in three days to reach the main draw of the tournament, beating Diril Dimitrov of Duke, Max Jones of New Mexico and Ed Corrie of Texas. On Friday, Clayton beat Robbye Pool of Mississippi 6-2, 6-3 and in the afternoon game bested Denes Lukacs 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. In the round of 16 Clayton defeated Philippe Frayssinoux of Mississippi State 6-1, 7-5 to advance to the quarterfinals before succumbing to Helgeson today.

Clayton was the last remaining Cardinal in the tournament after juniors Matt Bruch and Blake Muller lost their opening doubles match Thursday and Bruch fell in his opening singles match.

The Cardinal next takes to the court Friday, October 12, at the ITA Regional Championships in Seattle, WA.
