Robert Farah Powers Into All-American Final
Oct. 6, 2007
TULSA, OKLA. - USC sophomore Robert Farah had another powerful day at the Polo Ralph Lauren Men's All-American, tacking up quarterfinal and semifinal victories to earn a place in tomorrow's championship match. Farah had worked his way into the main draw of the All-American by getting three wins in qualifying rounds, and has now won eight matches in the past six days in Tulsa, Okla. One of three qualifiers to reach today's quarterfinals, Farah is the first qualifier since 2001 to reach the final. Farah will now face fourth-seeded Travis Helgeson of Georgia at 10 a.m. CT on Sunday in the championship match.
Farah's run to the final makes him the first Trojan since 1987 to get to the All-American singles championship match. Scott Melville last did it in 1987, when he went on to win the title. This will be Farah's first national final of his career.
To open the day's action, Farah faced off against Virginia's Treat Huey, who Farah dispatched 6-1, 5-7, 6-4. That put him in the semis against Florida's 9-16 seed Chris Ouellette, and the pair engaged in a three-hour battle that Farah finally took control of in the third set to win 7-5, 6-7 (5), 6-2 and punch his ticket to the final match.
