Volleyball Dominates in Sweep of Washington State

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Sun Devil Volleyball team was firing on all cylinders Friday night as a team attack percentage of .331 combined with Sarah Reaves' 19 kills and .378 average helped blast ASU past WashingtonState in a 30-21, 30-28 and 30-17 sweep of the Cougars. The defense also stepped up huge on the night as the Sun Devils also collected 12 total team blocks. The win improves the Sun Devils to 10-9 overall and 2-4 in conference play as WSU falls to 9-10 and 0-5 in the Pac-10.


Game one saw ASU come out on fire with a .436 attack percentage and 20 kills, with Sarah Reaves and Staci Smith combining for 13 of the kills. Reaves came out to hit a blistering .778 attack percentage while Sydney Donahue held down the defense with ten digs as the Sun Devils won 30-21.


Game two brought the Cougars back in the mix as Adetokunbo Faleti led WSU with five kills for a .571 attack percentage, but six tied scores and three lead changes later saw Sarah Reaves' eight kills and Marina Mercer's 15 assists prove to be too much for the Cougars as ASU just edged WSU 30-28.


Game three saw the Sun Devils slam the door on the Cougars with a season-high team attack percentage of .438. Margie Giordano had five kills to lead ASU's offense as the Sun Devils made quick work of the Cougars in the last game with a 30-17 win to take the match.


The Sun Devils return home next week to host the first round of the `Duel in the Desert' as they face in-state and Pac-10 rival, Arizona next Friday, October 12 at 7 p.m. in ASU's Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe.
