TEMPE, Ariz. - In its final non-conference match of the season, the Arizona State women's soccer team was defeated 1-0 by No. 19 San Diego on Sunday at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium. The Sun Devils drop to 6-5-0 on the season, while the Toreros improve to 9-1-2 overall.

ASU maintained control through the first 45 minutes of action as it held San Diego scoreless going into the halftime break. The Sun Devils out shot the Toreros 10-4 in the first half.

'We were playing very consistent in the first half,' said ASU head coach Kevin Boyd. 'There were ups and downs, but we should have scored at least two times.'

The second half of play started with the same intensity as the match remained scoreless until the 89th minute. A shot by San Diego's Leigh Ann Robinson was deflected off of ASU goalkeeper Briana Silvestri's hands and Ashleigh Shoughro found the net for the game-winning goal for San Diego.

With less than a minute of play remaining senior Kyleyn Felts had a chance at the San Diego goal, but came up short for ASU. Overall, the Sun Devils took 19 shots compared to six by the Toreros.

'We are playing good soccer, but the players are frustrated,' said Boyd. 'They are putting in a lot of work but are not getting the results.'

Silvestri had one save in the loss for the Sun Devils.

The Sun Devils will remain home for their Pac-10 season opener with the Washington Huskies Friday, Oct. 12 at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
