Baseball America Tabs UCLA Recruiting Class No. 7 in the Nation

Oct. 8, 2007

LOS ANGELES - UCLA baseball's incoming class has been rated the seventh-best recruiting class in the nation, according to Baseball America. Under fourth-year head coach John Savage, the Bruins' recruiting classes have been ranked No. 5, No. 13, and No. 7, respectively.

'We feel we have another very deep and talented group of players,' Savage said. 'Coach Brian Green has done another outstanding job of getting this class to UCLA. We are excited about the future of these players in our program.'

Last week, UCLA's recruiting class was tabbed the fifth-best class in the nation by Collegiate Baseball.

The group of 12 newcomers includes AFLAC All-America selections Erik Goeddel, a right-handed pitcher from Hillsborough, Calif., and Brett Krill, an outfielder from Laguna Niguel, Calif. Savage and his coaching staff recruited five players selected in the 2007 MLB Draft, including Krill, Niko Gallego, Dan Klein, Brandon Lodge and Rob Rasmussen.

Baseball America's list of top-25 recruiting classes includes three Pac-10 programs - Oregon State, UCLA and Arizona State. In 2008, the Bruins will play 15 games against teams which earned top-25 recruiting class marks from the esteemed national baseball publication.

In three seasons under Savage, the Bruins have twice advanced to the postseason (2006, 2007). Last spring, UCLA earned its first trip to the NCAA Super Regionals since 2000.

UCLA began fall workouts Monday, Oct. 8, and will conclude its fall practices with the annual Blue and Gold World Series, slated to take place Nov. 12-18.
