Stanford's Cynthia Barboza Named Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- Stanford outside hitter Cynthia Barboza has been named the Pac-10 Volleyball Player of the Week for Oct. 1- 7, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Barboza, a junior from Long Beach, Calif., recorded double-doubles in both matches this weekend to help the Cardinal sweep Oregon State and No. 19 Oregon. Barboza not only led her team in kills with 35, but also hit a .471 for the weekend.
On Thursday, against Oregon State, Barboza hit a season-high .486 and added 17 kills and 13 digs in the win over OSU. On Friday, Barboza led the team in both kills and digs, with 18 and 12 respectively, and hit a .455 to help the Cardinal improve to 16-0. Her two double-doubles of the weekend were her ninth and tenth on the season.
The win against the Ducks was Stanford's 12th sweep of the year and has extended the team's winning streak to 16 matches, the longest since the 2001 season.
This is the second weekly honor for Barboza, and Stanford's 62nd Pac-10 Player of the Week all-time.
