Crimson Crushes Gray in Game Two of Fall World Series

Oct. 9, 2007

PULLMAN, Wash. - Greg Lagreid's three-run home run in the bottom of the first helped Crimson cruise past Gray 8-2 in game two of the 2007 Washington State Baseball Fall World Series at Bailey-Brayton Field, Tuesday.

Crimson leads the best-of-five series 2-0. Game three is scheduled for Thursday at 5 p.m. with Eric Maupin set to take the mound for Crimson against Gray's Chad Arnold.

Lagreid's shot capped a four-run frame off Gray starting and losing pitcher James Wise (0-1) and ended the hurler's day after one-third of an inning. Garry Kuykendall staked Crimson to a 1-0 lead with a leadoff home run to right field.

The four-run first provided more than enough support for Crimson starter Matt Way (1-0). The Sitka, Alaska native gave up three hits and one unearned run in four innings while striking out two and walking one to pick up the victory.

Each team tallied a run in the third before Crimson tacked on three runs in the sixth with Jim Murphy and Lagreid contributing run-scoring singles during the frame.

Matt Fanelli was 3-for-3 with a double, RBI and run scored for Gray.
