AROUND THE LEAGUE:Pac-10 Conference play begins with two league teams ranked in the Top-5, as STANFORD (9-1-1) and UCLA (7-1-2) have been placed anywhere from No. 1 to No. 3 in four different polls ... NSCAA/adidas has the Bruins as the top team in the nation, while Soccer Buzz has tapped the Cardinal as the best team to date ... Nine exciting games are on the docket this weekend, highlighted by a Sun., Oct. 14 matchup between UCLA and OREGON (7-4-0), which will be televised on a tape-delayed basis by Fox Sports Net ... Last season, the Ducks pulled off an incredible 2-1 overtime upset to defeat then-ranked No. 3 UCLA, snapping the Bruins' 10-game win streak and handing them their only Conference loss of the 2006 season ... This past weekend, Oregon JR GK Jessie Chatfield set the UO career win record by earning No. 24 against Gonzaga ... The Ducks have scored 24 goals in 2007, which matches their total from all of last season ... UCLA has not lost a match since its season-opener against Texas on Sept. 2 ... The Bruins' potent offense currently ranks sixth in the nation as they average over two goals per game (2.27) ... Traditional rivals Stanford and CALIFORNIA (8-2-0) will meet up Fri., Oct. 12 in Palo Alto for a Bay Area showdown ... This too should be a solid match as the Bears rank second in the nation in shutout percentage (0.80), while the Cardinal offense ranks fourth in the Pac-10 in goals (22) ... Stanford SR D Rachel Buehler helped the Cardinal to a 0-0 double-overtime tie with No. 5 Santa Clara last weekend ... She led a defense that didn't allow a shot on goal for the entire match ... WASHINGTON (3-7-0), which had last weekend off, and WASHINGTON STATE (7-1-2), head to the desert to take on ARIZONA (5-6-0) and ARIZONA STATE (6-5-0), both of which are coming off of 1-0 non-conference losses last weekend at home ... The Cougars, ranked as high as 25th in this week's Soccer America poll, put together a 4-0 rout of Idaho on Friday ... SR F Brooke Bemis scored twice in the first 6:50 of the match ... Bemis raised her season-goal total to five, tied for the team lead, and netted her third game-winner of the season ... The victory over the Vandals gave the Cougars a 7-1-2 mark, their best non-conference record in school history ... USC (8-1-1), one of three league teams coming off of a bye, managed to jump one spot in both the Soccer America and Soccer Buzz polls, ranking ninth and sixth, respectively ... The Women of Troy will face Oregon and OREGON STATE (7-3-1) at home on Fri., Oct. 12 and Sun., Oct. 14 ... The Trojans' .487 goals against average will be tested by one of the best offensive weapons in the country in SR F Jodie Taylor, of OSU ... Taylor is tied for seventh in the nation in points per game (2.27) and ranks fourth in goals per game (1.09) ... Through all of non-conference regular season play, the Pac-10 sits at 68-30-7 (.681) and owns a winning record (.500 or above) against every conference except for the Horizon league and the Mountain West.
