Late Surge Not Enough, No. 16 Cal Falls To SDSU
Oct. 12, 2007
SAN DIEGO - The No. 16 California men's soccer team scored twice in the second half, but it wasn't enough to gain the victory as the Golden Bears fell to San Diego State, 3-2, Friday afternoon at the SDSU Sports Deck. Senior Andrew Jacobson scored both goals. The loss ends Cal's six-game unbeaten streak. The Bears fell to 7-3-1, 2-1, while the Aztecs improved to 6-2-2, 2-0.
Jacobson's first goal came in the 53rd minute with the Bears trailing, 3-0. Sophomore Evan Sassano earned an assist on the score. Jacobson received a pass from Sassano on a cross and took the shot from five yards out to tally his first goal of the season.
The second score of the contest for Jacobson came in the 76th minute. It was an unassisted goal as he beat a defender and took a shot from eight yards out that went off the right post.
Cal outshot SDSU, 12-10, but couldn't get one more score to tie the game.
The Aztec's goals came from Kraig Chiles, who notched his third and fourth goals of the season, and Khadim Diouf. Chiles got SDSU on the board first in the sixth minute and scored his second goal of the game in the 48th minute. His second score proved to be the game winner.
