Volleyball Shuts Down Arizona In Sweep

TEMPE, Ariz. - The Sun Devil Volleyball team left no questions on the court Friday night as they stepped up to shut down the Arizona Wildcats in a three-game sweep winning 31-29, 30-25 and 30-28. Sarah Reaves had 20 kills on the night and both Margie Giordano and Sydney Donahue hauled in 12 digs apiece. The Sun Devils are now 11-9 overall and 3-4 in conference play as Arizona falls to 11-9 and 2-5 in the Pac-10.


Game one saw the Sun Devils come out to a slow start as they had to battle through 15 tie scores with the `Cats and four lead changes, coming back from a 16-11 deficit to take the win 31-29 with Sarah Reaves leading the offense with five kills coupled with Marina Mercer's 15 assists.


Game two was all ASU who came out blazing with a .400 team attack percentage with Sarah Reaves finding a comfortable groove hitting .474 and combining with Margie Giordano for 17 of the game's kills to blast ASU by the `Cats 30-25.


Game three saw the `Cats rally back, but it was too late as ASU posted a .387 team attack percentage with Staci Smith and Reaves pairing up for nine kills with Marina Mercer's 16 assists to finish off the `Cats with a 30-28 win.


ASU returns to their home court next weekend as they host the bay area schools, the Cal Golden Bears and Stanford Cardinal on Thursday, October 18 and 19. Both games will be held in Tempe at Wells Fargo Arena at 7 p.m.
