Men's Tennis Completes First Day at Wilson/ITA Regional Tournament

SEATTLE, Wash. - The California men's tennis team completed their second day of competition at the Wilson/ITA Regional tournament in Seattle, Wash. hosted by the University of Washington. The winners of the singles and doubles tournaments are granted automatic entry into the Collegiate National Indoor Championships held in November.

Freshman Bozhodar Katsarov won in straight sets against Sacramento State's Anton Stryhas, 7-6, 6-1, to advance to the round of 16. Top seeded in his bracket, senior Pierre Mouillon fell to Ted Kelly of Stanford in three sets, 6-7, 6-3, 6-3.

In doubles play, Dahan and Mouillon teamed up to defeat Oregon duo Embry and Mortera 8-6. Gilbert and Nakahara were victorious over Nevada's David and Kuharszky, 8-3. Second seeded Chivezer and Zerbini won 8-4 over Portland's pair of Schleining and Wales, 8-4. All three Cal double's teams will play in the round of 16.

In the consolation singles, freshman Zach Gilbert defeated Nevada's Guerin Smith and Washington's Martin Kildahl in two straight set matches, 7-5, 6-4 and 6-3, 7-6 respectively.

Both singles and doubles action will continue tomorrow beginning at 8 a.m.
