Oct. 13, 2007
Senior Claire Rethmeier was UCLA's No. 1 runner on Saturday to lead the Bruin women to a 25th-place team finish at the Pre-National Invite in Terre Haute, IN. Rethmeier finished 83rd out of 235 runners in a time of 21:34.0. Princeton won the team title with 149 points, while UCLA posted a score of 647. There were 35 teams total participating in the race.
'We knew that this was going to be a tall order for our women's team, but we wanted to come back here (to Indiana) and run the team in a nationally competitive race to try to measure where we are,' said head coach Eric Peterson. 'I was pleased with the early effort of everyone on the team from top to bottom. They went out aggressively but didn't hold on to the position they had established early on. We need to practice it more and we will be a better team. We will continue to work hard and prepare for Pac-10's.
