Brian Perk Named UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week
Oct. 15, 2007
Sophomore goalkeeper Brian Perk (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA/Edison Academic Center) of the UCLA men's soccer team was selected as the UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week for Oct. 8-14.
Perk, who was also selected to Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Week, recorded two shutouts this past weekend, stopping Stanford for 110 minutes in a 0-0 tie on Friday night and holding off 16th-ranked California for 90 minutes in a 1-0 win on Sunday afternoon. In the Cal game, Perk made a game-saving stop at the 73:00 mark, leaping high to make a fingertip save off a hard Javier Ayala-Hil shot. Against Stanford, Perk had two saves, one in the second half and one in overtime. In both games, Perk made solid plays on crosses and dangerous balls to keep his opponents off the scoreboard. With the two shutouts, he decreased his goals against average to 0.88, and he now has five shutouts on the year with 51 saves. Perk also helped the Bruins remain unbeaten at home this year with a 4-0-1 record.
This is Perk's first UCLA/Muscle Milk Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the season and of his career.
