Kristin Olsen Named Pac-10 Player of the Week
Oct. 15, 2007
USC sophomore goalkeeper Kristin Olsen has become the first Trojan to be named Pac-10 Player of the Week since 2005, having earned the honor following back-to-back shutouts over the weekend. The goalie of record for all USC's games this year, Olsen helped keep USC's unbeaten streak alive with two more shutouts to extend USC's winning streak to six straight for a 10-1-1 overall record.
Now unbeaten for eight straight games, USC has tallied a total of eight shutouts, of which Olsen has secured six solo shutouts. In back-to-back Pac-10 shutouts over the weekend - a 1-0 win over Oregon and a 5-0 win over Oregon State - Olsen gathered in five saves. She is 10-1-1 this season and leads the conference in shutouts. She has allowed only five goals this year and has been scored on only once in USC's eight-game unbeaten streak - a goal scored in a USC upset win over then-No. 2 Portland.
USC's Amy Rodriguez was the last USC player to earn the honor, named Pac-10 Player of the Week on Nov. 8, 2005. This is Olsen's first career award.
USC's strong 10-1-1 start to the 2007 season has lifted the Trojans to a No. 6 ranking in the nation this week according to Soccer America.
