Stanford Men in Third Heading into Final Round at The Prestige

La Quinta, Calif. - Competing amongst some of the most elite programs in collegiate men's golf, the No. 15 Stanford squad shot rounds of 285 and 293 on the first day of The Prestige at PGA West today, and currently stand third (+2, 578) in the 16-team field. Top-ranked Charlotte (-10, 566) holds a four-stroke lead in the field after 36 holes at the par-72, 7156-yard Greg Norman Course in La Quinta, Calif.

Central Florida stands second with a 6-under, 570, eight strokes in front of the Cardinal. Rounding out the top-10 are Pepperdine (581), San Diego (581), Cal (583), Michigan (583), TCU (585), UC Irvine (586) and Colorado (586).

Sophomore Joseph Bramlett (72-70) led the way for the Cardinal in the first 36 holes, finishing the day tied for ninth at 2-under, 142. Senior Rob Grube (70-74) shot a team-low 70 in the first round and stands tied for 15th (144) with teammate Jordan Cox (71-73). Rounding out the Cardinal players are freshman Sihwan Kim (73-76) who is tied for 43rd with a 149, and junior Dodge Kemmer (72-78) who is tied for 49th with a 36-hole total of 150.

Competing as an individual, freshman Steve Ziegler (77-72) finished with a 149 on his first day of collegiate golf, tying with Kim for 43rd. Junior Daniel Lim (75-75), who is also competing as an individual, stands tied for 49th at 150.

Stanford was also third after the first round of play. Bramlett, Grube and Cox all turned in one under-par round to lead the Cardinal. Minnesota's Clayton Rask leads the individual field with an 8-under, 136.?Stanford will finish play at the tournament tomorrow, with 18 holes beginning at 8:00 a.m. (PT) in La Quinta. Last season, Stanford upended defending champion UCLA at the event, and won its second tournament of the year.
