Jason Evans And Allen Smith To Miss Remainder Of 2007 Season
Oct. 23, 2007
Stanford, Calif. - Jason Evans and Allen Smith will miss the remainder of the 2007 season due to their respective injuries announced head coach Jim Harbaugh at the weekly Stanford Football Press Conference on Tuesday.
Evans injured his left knee during Stanford's 21-20 victory at Arizona on October 20 and is expected to have surgery next week. The fifth-year senior running back made his first collegiate start against the Wildcats and was having the best game of his collegiate career prior to the injury, rushing for a career-high 78 yards on a career-high and team season-high 21 carries. Evans, who was filling in for injured starter Anthony Kimble, also scored his first TD of the season and the second of his career on a two-yard run with 0:05 remaining in the first half.
Evans finished his 2007 season with 30 carries for 105 yards and a TD to go along with five catches for 51 yards and two kick returns for 51 yards as well. He played in each of the team's first seven games and also contributed three tackles on special teams.
'I'm still look forward to a lot of good times for this team this season,' said Evans. 'Somebody will step in and do well. That's what everybody has done so far. I still think we can reach our goal to make a bowl game.'
'Jason has torn his ACL, and that's a big blow to the team and to him personally,' stated Harbaugh. 'He was the team's offensive player of the game this week at Arizona and played extremely well when he got his chance to play. I'm very proud of Jason.'
Smith injured his left knee in Stanford's third game of the 2007 season versus Oregon on September 22 and had surgery the following week. He has not played since, snapping a string of 23 consecutive games started for the junior offensive lineman.
'While I'm disappointed to lose my season because I think I could have contributed more to our goals, I am so proud of the guys that have stepped up and helped replace some of the veterans on this team that have been injured,' offered Smith. 'My rehab from this injury will take care of itself and there's still a lot more football for me to play in the future, but this team will continue to strive towards its goals.'
'Allen Smith is going to be out for this year,' confirmed Harbaugh.
