WSU to Host Fifth Annual Head of the Snake Regatta

What's Happening This Week: The Washington State women's rowing team will defend its home course Friday, Oct. 26, against the Gonzaga Bulldogs...this is the second consecutive week the two teams have met...races begin at 3:30 p.m. and will take place on a 5,000 meter course on the Snake River.
Last Week: The varsity eight, second varsity eight, third varsity eight, novice eight, second novice eight, and third novice eight captured victories in races against the Bulldogs at the Head of the Spokane.
The 2007 Head of the Snake: WSU Rowers will be competing at Wawawai Landing, the home course for the Cougs...racing begins with the first flight at 3:30 p.m....the second flight will begin at 5 p.m....WSU's varsity eight has gone undefeated against the Bulldogs at the Head of the Snake each of the last four years and will look to continue that trend Friday.
On Tap for the Cougars: The Cougars will travel to Seattle to compete in the Head of the Lake Regatta Sunday, Nov.11...Pac-10 rival Washington will host the event.
Coaching Staff: Jane LaRiviere enters her sixth year as WSU head women's rowing coach...Cougars earned a program-best fourth place at the NCAA National Championships in 2006 under LaRiviere...she is joined by assistant Tara Medina, novice coach Christina Meyer, and graduate assistant Paul Hawksworth...Medina is in her second year as an assistant...she joins WSU women's rowing after coaching one year at Michigan...Meyer is entering her third year as the novice coach...Hawksworth is a second year graduate assistant.
Directions to the WSU Boathouse at Wawawai Landing: From Highway 195 (north or south), turn west on Wawawai Road at the blinking yellow light...travel on Wawawai Road for 10 miles, the road will end at a stop sign...turn right and drive six miles down into the canyon...go past the county park on the right and over the railroad tracks...the boathouse is a cinderblock building on the right...park on the side of the road or in the parking lot south of the boathouse.
