Stanford doubles advances with 8-0 win, singles players fall in Chandler Cup

Berkeley, Calif - Stanford doubles team of freshman Greg Hirshman and sophomore Kevin Kaiser cruised to the second round today while Cardinal singles players all fell in first and second round action at the Chandler Cup Invite hosted by Cal at the Hellman Tennis Complex.
Hirshman and Kaiser overwhelmed Jacek Twarowski and Stefan Nikolic of Loyola Marymount by an 8-0 margin. They advance to the second round to play second seeded Andy Koharsky and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan from the University of Washington.
In singles first round play senior Phil Kao won his first match this year against Bryan Pybans of UC Santa Cruz 6-4, 7-6 and sophomore Kevin Kaiser overcame Pacific's David Gonzalez 6-2, 6-4. Hirshman, the final Cardinal singles player at the tournament, lost his opening match to Joel Kusnier from Saint Mary's 6-1, 6-2. He will play in a consolation game tomorrow afternoon.
The second round proved to be the end of the line for the Cardinal singles players. Kao fell to UC San Diego's Bijan Moiallemi 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 and Kiryl Harbatsiuk from Sacramento handed Keiser a 6-2, 6-4 loss. The consolation bracket is for first round losers tomorrow.
