Tuitama, Thomas, Harper Named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Football Players of the Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--Quarterback Willie Tuitama and kick returner/wide receiver Mike Thomas of Arizona and safety Matthew Harper of Oregon have been named U.S. Bank Pac-10 Football Players of the Week.

Tuitama and Thomas played major roles in Arizona's come-from-behind 48-41 upset win at Washington. Tuitama, a junior from Stockton, Calif., completed 38 of 51 passes (.745) for a school-record 510 yards and five touchdowns. Included were three touchdown passes in the game's final 12 minutes to fuel the comeback victory. Tuitama completed his final 11 passes of the game and his five touchdowns covered 66, 51, 33, 2 and 27 yards. His 517 yards total offense in the game is the third-highest single-game total in Pac-10 history.

Thomas, a sophomore from DeSoto, Tex., provided field position for the Wildcats with six kickoffs returned for 173 yards (28.8), including two 45-yard returns. On offense, Thomas contributed 10 receptions for 165 yards and three touchdowns.

Harper, a senior from Union City, Calif., made key defensive plays in Oregon's 24-17 win against No. 9-ranked USC. Harper had two interceptions returned for 61 yards. Included was a pick at the Oregon 16-yard line with less than a minute remaining in the game that sealed the Duck victory. Harper also was credited with five tackles and broke up a pass.

Others nominated for offensive player of the week honors were running backs Dwight Tardy of Washington State, Dimitri Nance of Arizona State and Jonathan Stewart of Oregon. Also nominated on defense were cornerback Justin Tryon of Arizona State and linebackers Derrick Doggett of Oregon State, Spencer Larsen of Arizona and Kyle Bosworth of UCLA. Reid Forrest of Washington State, Alexis Serna of Oregon State, Thomas Weber of Arizona State and Patrick Chung of Oregon were nominated for special teams play.
