WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- Washington State senior forward Brooke Bemis has been named the Pac-10 Women's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 23-29, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Bemis, from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho has played a key role for the Cougars all season long and had a strong weekend as Washington State tied Oregon, 1-1, on Friday and defeated Oregon State, 2-1, on Sunday.
Bemis' equalizer in the 85th minute of Washington State's match with Oregon gave the Cougars a much needed tie as they fight for position in the race for the Pac-10 title.
The senior returned on Sunday to record the goal that brought WSU even with Oregon State in a match the Cougars would eventually win, 2-1. The two goals on the weekend earned her a tie for the team lead in goals with eight.
With the strong weekend, the Cougars (10-2-3, 3-1-1 Pac-10) have moved into a tie with USC for second place in the Conference and will look to make a major move this weekend as they face California on Friday and Stanford on Sunday.
