Cal's DeSean Jackson Named a Semifinalist for Biletnikoff Award

BERKELEY - California junior receiver DeSean Jackson has been selected as one 12 semifinalists for the 2007 Biletnikoff Award got the top receiver in the nation. Jackson was also a semifinalist for the award in 2006.
Jackson has 46 catches for 541 yards and five touchdowns this season (at this point last year, he had 36 catches for 622 yards). Over his last five games, the junior speedster has 29 receptions for 390 yards. He also ranks second in the Pac-10 in punt return average with 10.6 yards per return. His most impressive performance of the year came at Oregon, currently ranked No. 4 in the nation, as he snagged 11 catches for 161 yards as the Golden bears handed the Ducks their lone loss of the season. He also had nine grabs for 136 yards and two touchdowns against UCLA.
To be considered for the Biletnikoff Award an individual must display leadership and self-discipline; have a significant, positive impact on his team's success and display a commitment to be the best player he can be. The announcement of the winners of the Biletnikoff Award will be made during the Home Depot College Football Awards Show that will be broadcast on ESPN in December. Voters for the Biletnikoff Award include selected members of the national media and former receivers.
Jackson joins Alex Mack as a semifinalist for a major national award. Mack was tabbed as a semifinalist for the Rotary Lombardi Award for the nation's top lineman that lines up within five yards of the ball.
