No. 8 Cal Places 3rd at Kent Youel Invitational

KAPOLEI, O'ahu, Hawai'i - No. 8 California finished in third place Wednesday at the Kent Youel Invitational at Kapolei Golf Course. The Golden Bears carded an 896 (+32) after posting a score of 296 in the final round.
No. 1 UCLA won the 19-team tournament at 881, and No. 4 USC was the runner-up at 8885. Oregon State (917) and San Jose State (918) rounded out the top five teams.
UCLA's Tiffany Joh and Maria Jose Uribe shared the individual title at one-over 217. The Bruins duo finished one shot ahead of the Trojans duo of Belen Mozo and Joanne Lee (218).
Sophomore Sofia Janer paced the Bears by grabbing seventh place at 221. Janer shot a 74 in the final round.
Freshman Pia Halbig was Cal's next best golfer in Hawaii, tying for 11th at 224 after also carding a 74 today. Junior Allison Goodman took 15th (225), sophomore Roseanne Niven tied for 26th (230) and junior Shannon Yocum tied for 33rd (233). Goodman topped the Bears with a score of 72 over the final 18 holes.
Cal placed in the top five in all four fall tournaments. The Bears return to action at the Wildcat Invitational Feb. 25-27, 2008, in Tucson, Ariz.
