Henderson Named to ESPN The Magazine All-District VIII First Team

LOS ANGELES - UCLA women's soccer player Valerie Henderson was named to the ESPN The Magazine All-District VIII Team on Thursday, making her eligible to receive Academic All-America honors later in the year. Teammate Catherine Calvert was also on the team, as she was a third-team selection.
Henderson, a senior goalkeeper from Orinda, Calif., currently ranks ninth nationally with an 0.49 goals against average. She has started every match for the Bruins this season, posting a 12-1-2 record. She has yet to give up a goal in Pac-10 play, as No. 1 UCLA is 5-0 in the Pac-10 and currently vying for the school's fifth straight conference title. Henderson, who has been the Bruins' starting goalkeeper since her freshman season, has helped UCLA reach the NCAA College Cup every year of her career. She has been equally as outstanding in the classroom, owning a 3.49 cumulative grade point average. Henderson is an English major with a minor in Spanish.
Calvert, a junior defender from Malibu, Calif., has played in all 15 matches this season, making nine starts. She has been instrumental in helping UCLA's defense rank among the top in the nation, as the Bruins have posted eight shutouts, including five in a row. UCLA ranks second in the Pac-10 in total goals allowed with nine. Calvert carries a 3.36 cumulative grade point average and is majoring in Psychology.
The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selects All-America teams in 12 different sports. Only first-team selections are eligible to be included on the 2007 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Team.
