Julie's Journal #3
Nov. 1, 2007
Well, we are back to individuals for practice now after having finished our last weekend of games. We played at UC Davis this past weekend, playing both UC Davis and Sacramento State on Saturday and Sunday.
Overall the weekend went well and coach reiterated that it is not about winning, but more about how we are coming together and playing as a team. We won both of our games on Saturday by come from behind victories. It was really good to see the team come together when we were down and fight to win the games. We didn't give up and that's a good thing to see in the fall because it gives us an idea of what we are capable of doing in the spring.
On Sunday it was a little bit different of a story. We lost our first game to Davis, but after the loss we came back really strong and beat Sac State. It was really great to see us bounce back from a loss and jump out to an early lead against Sac State. Overall we learned a lot of things from the weekend and that was our goal this fall. To learn as muchas we could about each other on the field, to learn our strengths and weaknesses and now we can work on all these things before we start up in January.
Since we are back to individual sessions, we have a lot of time to refine our skills and really work out all the details. Coach wants us to pay attention to detail because she feels that is what will make a difference, so the whole team is trying to be detail oriented throughout the rest of the season. We are going to start picking up conditioning and really work hard the rest of the off season so we can be in great shape and ready to go when we start practice in January. Coach Miller is going to start really kicking our butts to make sure we are in shape before we leave for break and than it's up to us to stay that way over our month away from campus.
All in all, it was a really good fall for the team and we had a lot of fun playing together and learning about each other as teammates. Hopefully we can carry everything we learned over to the spring have a successful year and get back to the World Series.
Thanks for checking in with Cal Softball and GO BEARS!!
