Los Angeles, Calif. - The UCLA women's basketball team opened its 2007 exhibition season with a 94-82 win over Team Concept, a group of former college players. Sophomore guard Erica Tukiainen led four Bruins in double figures with a 19-point, seven-rebound effort. Senior forward Lindsey Pluimer registered a double-double with 15 points and a game-high total of 12 rebounds.
UCLA jumped out to a 13-4 advantage in the early going and held the lead most of the first half before heading into the locker room at the break with a 46-38 margin. Tukiainen connected on three of her total of five three-point shots in the final minute and a half before the intermission.
The Bruins opened the second half with a 12-2 run to take a 58-40 lead with 16:11 to play. Five different UCLA players scored during that stretch, reflecting the overall balance in the Bruin attack, which featured eight players totaling at least seven points on the night. UCLA took its largest lead of the contest, at 75-52 at the 10:30 mark, on a lay-up by freshman forward Christina Nzekwe and maintained a double-digit advantage for the rest of the second half.
In addition to Tukiainen and Pluimer, also scoring in double figures for the Bruins were freshman center Regina Rogers (11) and freshman forward Nina Earl (10). Starters Moniquee Alexander (7 points, 9 rebounds), Darxia Morris (8 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists) and Doreena Campbell (9 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and zero turnovers) contributed solid numbers as well.
