Wrestlers Get Head Start on Season at Menlo Open

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford wrestlers will get a head start on the 2007-08 season this week, with most of the team scheduled to compete at the Menlo Open in Menlo Park on Saturday. The Cardinal athletes will be among approximately 80 wrestlers competing.

Among the competitors will be a number of Cardinal newcomers. The Cardinal added 16 wrestlers to the roster this season, and most of them will see their first collegiate bouts this weekend. The Cardinal heads to Tecumseh, Kans. next week to compete in its first dual of the year against Fort Hays State.

Action begins at 2 p.m. Saturday at Haynes Prim Pavilion on the Menlo College campus, with the finals set to begin at 5 p.m. In addition to the Cardinal, a number of local colleges and clubs, including Pac-10 rival Cal State Bakersfield, will send wrestlers.
