Simpson and Ardies Take Doubles Title in San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Senior Tara Simpson and sophomore Joyce Ardies captured the top flight doubles title at the San Diego State Fall Classic #2 today, capping a successful weekend for the Husky women's tennis team in their second fall tournament.
The Husky duo defeated Eliska Krausova and Holly Bagshaw of SDSU, 9-7 in the final, capping off a perfect 3-0 weekend for the co-captains.
On the singles side, junior Melinda Wong lost a heartbreaker in the final of the Flight 4 draw. Wong took the first set, 7-5, against SDSU's Olivia Colman, but Colman fought back with a 7-5 second set win, and took the third, 6-4.
In consolation play, Simpson and freshman Aleksandra Krsljanin each posted identical 6-1, 6-1 wins in the third singles flight. Sophomore Aleksandra Malovic fell, 6-4, 6-1 to Oklahoma's Maria Kalashnikova in the Flight 2 back draw.
Also in doubles, Wong and Krsljanin, and freshman Ashley Anderson and Malovic both lost consolation match-ups.
The Huskies will make their fall home debut next weekend, Nov. 9-11, at the Nordstrom Tennis Center for the Husky Invitational.
