UCLA to Host Third Annual CordeValle Collegiate
Nov. 4, 2007
UCLA will host the third annual CordeValle Collegiate, featuring 10 of the nation's top teams, at CordeValle Country Club in San Martin, Calif.
'We are especially grateful to Jack and Rhodine Gifford for their support of this event,' said Head Coach Derek Freeman. 'Without their generosity, this tournament would not be possible. Their support of our program has been tremendous and greatly appreciated, and their support of college golf has been outstanding. We cannot thank them enough.'
UCLA enters the CordeValle Collegiate as the highest ranked team in the field, ranking fifth in the latest GolfWeek poll after winning its first two events of the season. Two weeks ago, the Bruins won the Big Ten/Pac-10 Challenge by six strokes and last week UCLA swept through the Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship.
The rest of the field includes seventh-ranked USC, No. 9 Stanford, 19th-ranked Lamar, No. 33 Washington, 42nd ranked Texas A&M, Arizona, Augusta State, Coastal Carolina, Northwestern and Santa Clara. Stanford is the defending CordeValle team champion and the reigning NCAA champion.
Three UCLA players are ranked in the nation's Top 10: seniors Kevin Chappell (5th), and Craig Leslie (9th) and junior Erik Flores (8th). Other ranked individuals in the field include: 17th-ranked Jake Amos of Augusta State, No. 26 Zach Bixler of Washington, No. 29 Tom Glissmeyer of USC and Coastal Carolina's David Dannelly, who is ranked 34th. In addition, Stanford's Rob Grube, last year's CordeValle co-champion, will compete.
CordeValle Country Club will play to a par of 72 over 7,169 yards. Tournament format will be 18 holes of stroke play Nov. 5-7 with players starting off the first and 10th tees beginning at 8 a.m. PST each day. Results will be carried live by GolfStat and sports information services will be provided by Santa Clara University.
