Candice Wiggins Named To Associated Press Preseason All-America Team
Nov. 6, 2007
STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford senior guard Candice Wiggins was named to the preseason All-America team by the Associated Press Tuesday. The selection also marks the second consecutive year in which Wiggins was honored as a preseason All-American by the AP.
Tuesday's honor is yet another for Wiggins during the 2007-08 preseason. She has already been named to the preseason All-Pac-10 team as well as one of 30 preseason finalists, along with teammate Jayne Appel, for the Wooden Award.
Joining her on the AP's preseason All-America team are Tennessee's Candace Parker, Oklahoma's Courtney Paris, LSU's Sylvia Fowles, and Maryland's Crystal Langhorne.
Last year, Wiggins earned All-American honors from Kodak/WBCA and the Associated Press for the third straight year after averaging 16.9 points a game. The San Diego native also shot 44.1% from behind the arc.
This season, Wiggins will look to lead the No. 7/8 Cardinal to its eighth consecutive Pac-10 regular season title as well as its 21st consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament. Should she earn All-America honors at season's end, Wiggins will earn her own place in the Stanford history books as the first four-time All-American in program history.
Stanford opens its 2007-08 regular season this Friday, Nov. 9, on the road against the Yale Bulldogs. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. Pacific time. The Cardinal will then travel to Rutgers to battle the third-ranked Scarlet Knights in a 5 p.m. Pacific contest that will be televised nationally on ESPN.
