Cal vs. UC Riverside Quotes
Nov. 15, 2007
RIVERSIDE, Calif. -
Cal head coach Joanne Boyle
On the difference in the game
'They're without one of their best players (Kemie Nkele, the 2006-07 Big West Player of the Year.) We're in the same situation without Devanei (Hampton, the 2007-08 Pac-10 Player of the Year) being here. We owned the defensive end of the floor. That was our focus coming in. We said that we're not going to give them easy looks at the basket. We also did a good job rebounding. We were at +12 in the end. Once we committed to the defensive end and got stops, we got transition buckets. That opened it up.'
On Ashley Walker
'She had a quiet 25 (points) and 10 (rebounds). She does the things we need her to do. She and Rama did a great job in the post. With Dev (Hampton) out, Rama is really finding her way now. Ashley is always stepping up. She was double and triple teamed the whole game. We told her to be patient, and we tried to get her away from the basket so that she could catch and go. After awhile, they wore down defensively, and she got the looks that she needed.'
On reaching 1000-career points
'I didn't know (I reached 1000 points). It feels great. It feels different. I've never done anything like that before.'
On learning that Rama N'diaye assisted on the 1000th point
'That's even better, scoring off a pass from a post buddy.'
