Hooker Headlines Six Cal Pac-10 Honorees

BERKELEY, Calif. - California senior defender Courtney Hooker has been named a first-team All-Pac-10 selection, while senior midfielder Caitlin Hannegan has earned a spot on the second team.

Also for Cal, senior midfielder Caroline Lea, junior forward Valerie Barnes and freshman forward Alex Morgan have been chosen honorable mention All-Pac-10. Morgan joined freshman defender Megan Jesolva on the Pac-10 All-Freshman team.

This is the fourth All-Pac-10 selection of Hooker's career. She also received first team honors as a sophomore and garnered second-team honors as a freshman and junior. The Woodland Hills, Calif., native has helped the Bears record 47 shutouts in her 83 collegiate games. Hooker registered her first career goal in Cal's 2-1 victory over Washington State this season.

Hannegan has shown incredible growth during her Cal career. The San Rafael, Calif., product has started all 19 games this season and has contributed a career-high 13 points. She is tied for the team lead with three assists and is third on the team with five goals.

Lea has also started all 19 games and has posted a career-high 10 points from a career-high four goals and two assists. A product of Lakewood, Colo., Lea received second-team All-Pac-10 recognition as a sophomore and junior.

Barnes has earned her first all-conference honor after leading the Bears in points (16) and tying for the team lead in goals (7) heading into the postseason. She also tops Cal with four game-winning goals. Prior to this season, the Martinez, Calif., product recorded a combined 10 points in her first two seasons.

Morgan, who hails from Diamond Bar, Calif., has assembled an outstanding freshman campaign. She is second on the team with 15 points and is tied with Barnes for the team lead in goals with seven. Morgan has three game-winning goals to her credit, including in a 2-0 triumph over then-No. 1 Santa Clara on Sept. 30.

Jesolva has utilized her speed and defensive savvy to help Cal's strong defense. A native of La Mirada, Calif., Jesolva has started 16 of 19 games this season and has posted two assists, including in the road victory at Santa Clara.

No. 11 Cal (14-5) faces No. 16 Santa Clara (12-5-3) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday, Nov. 16, at 4:30 p.m. at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium in Stanford, Calif.
