Huskies Host British Columbia Today

Nov. 16, 2007

SEATTLE - The University of Washington men's and women's swimming teams host the University of British Columbia today in a non-conference swimming meet. The Huskies and UBC face off at 12 p.m. at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Washington is coming off a successful trip to the state of Ohio, where the women defeated both Ohio State and Cincinnati and the men's squad downed Cincinnati. Despite losing to Ohio State, the men's team swam well against the Buckeyes, who are ranked No. 14 in the nation.

Freshman sensation Ariana Kukors, who swims locally for the King Aquatic Club, is having perhaps the best first-year performance in Husky swimming history. Last weekend, she set two more school records at the Ohio State meet, and now holds five school records in all, including the 100 back, 200 back, 200 breaststroke, 200 individual medley and the 400 IM,

Kim Jasmer and Emilee Jennings also had great showings last weekend, as both won three events at the Ohio State meet with Jennings taking two more firsts at Cincinnati.

On the men's side, Ivan Perhat and Scott Spansail won two events each at Ohio State, while David Bai was a double-winner against Cincinnati.

After the UBC meet, Washington will host the annual Husky Invitational from Thursday, Nov. 29-Saturday, Dec. 1. That meet will also be at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.
