Men's Golf Signs Four Top Players

The UCLA men's golf program signed four players to National Letters of Intent, the athletic department announced this week.
First-year head coach Derek Freeman inked two in-state players, one from Colorado and another from Mexico. The group is considered one of the country's best recruiting classes.
'This is an unbelievably strong recruiting class,' said Freeman. 'Every one of these players was highly recruited. We're very pleased with this group.
Topping the list is Danville's Gregor Main, ranked seventh nationally by the American Junior Golf Assn. Main recently won The PING Invitational with scores of 68-71-75--214 (-2) in which he beat some of the top-ranked junior players in the nation. In August, he also won the TomatoBank Northern California Classic with scores of 67-67-68--202 (-14). Last month, he earned AJGA First-Team All-America honors.
UCLA's other California signee was Fullerton's Alex Kim, a senior at Sunny Hills HS. Kim, ranked ninth by the AJGA, earned 2nd Team All-America honors last month after recording six Top 10 results this season.
Beau Schoolcraft, a senior at Kent Denver HS in Englewood, CO, recently won the Colorado 4A State championship. He fired scores of 67-68--137 (-5) to lead the Sun Devils to the team title. On the AJGA circuit over the summer, he recorded three Top 20 results in four starts, tying for sixth at the Fidelity Investments Junior Championship with scores of 68-73-76--215.
Mauricio Azcue (As-kway) hails from Mexico City and was Mexico's top-ranked amateur player for two years. He won the Campeon de Campeones event with scores of 64-70-70--204 (-12), setting a course record with his first round score of eight-under par. Ranked 38th nationally in the U.S., Azcue recorded three Top 20 results in four starts this summer on the AJGA circuit, including a pair of Top 10s. He tied for fourth at the 2007 Junior World Championship with scores of 72-69-75-74--290.
