Nov. 19, 2007
EUGENE, Ore. - Patrick Pitsch, a senior on the Arizona State University wrestling team that is ranked No. 3 in the nation, dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 2 Eric Tannenbaum of Michigan in the 165-pound bout of the 2007 NWCA All-Star Classic presented by the United States Marine Corps Monday night in Eugene, Ore. The bout, which does not count toward either wrestlers' record, was one of 12 exhibition bouts featuring some of the top talent in the nation.
After a scoreless first period, Tannenbaum chose down to start the period and escaped for a 1-0 lead. Later in the period, Pitsch shot in for a takedown, but Tannenbaum reversed the attempt to score his own takedown for a 3-0 lead through two periods. Pitsch chose bottom in the final period, but could not escape, giving Tannenbaum a riding time point for the final 4-0 score.
The Sun Devils will hold their first home dual of the season next weekend as they play host to intrastate rival Embry-Riddle at 2 p.m. Sunday inside Wells Fargo Arena. Fans are encouraged to bring any non-perishable food item to the door and will be given admission to the dual for $2. All food will be donated to a local food bank. Following the dual, the Sun Devil wrestlers will be on hand for an autograph session.
