On behalf of the Stanford Track and Field Family, Friends and Staff, we would like to recognize the beautiful life of Lori Maynard. On November 18, 2007, Lori lost her battle to breast cancer.
Lori contributed 25 years of dedicated service to Stanford Track and Field, as the field events coordinator. Lori's work ethic has been a vital part of the Stanford Track and Field home meet's success. Her ongoing contributions for the past 25 years have been solely from the goodness of her heart, expecting nothing in return. She embodies the meaning of a true volunteer.
Lori was a national class race walker in the late 70's and early 80's. She held numerous masters record and titles at various distances. In 1979, Lori medaled in the open women's 10K and in 1980 she medaled in the women's 20K. She took 2nd at the World Masters in Hanover, Germany in 1979. In 1980, Lori was the 1st woman race walker in the New York City Marathon. As a result of these accomplishments, Lori was selected in the Master's Athlete's Hall of Fame in 2005.
After many years of competition, Lori volunteered her time at the 1984 Olympics. In 1990 she was a World Junior Champs Race Walker Judge in Bulgaria. And at the 1996 Olympics, Lori pulled double duty and was the Head of Discus and Hammer crew and was the trial referee of hurdles, long jump, sprints, and race walk. In 2000, Lori was an international race walk judge at the Sydney 2000 Olympics.
From 1984-2002, Lori had many national team responsibilities, such as Team Leader, Coach, Manager and Women's Assistant.
In addition, between 1981-2002, Lori actively participated on various USATF committees.
Lori's resume of achievements and dedication to the sport of Track and Field are inspiring to all of us. She has given us all something impressive to strive for; she was truly a remarkable woman with so much grace and beauty.
Lori and her husband of fifty years, Sonny, are special gifts to the Stanford Track and Field community because we have all been blessed by their dedication and commitment to our team.
As a token of our appreciation, the Stanford Track & Field Invitational Kids Half-Lapper, will forever be known as the LORI MAYNARD KIDS HALF-LAPPER.
Dear Maynard Family, our thoughts and prayers are with.
All of our love,
Stanford Track and Field, Family and Friends
