CALIFORNIA's KEVIN GRIMES NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- WASHINGTON senior forward Ely Allen and CALIFORNIA senior midfielder Andrew Jacobson were named Pac-10 Co-Players of the Year, STANFORD midfielder/forward Bobby Warshaw was named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and CALIFORNIA head coach Kevin Grimes was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.

PAC-10 Co-PLAYER OF THE YEAR -- ELY ALLEN, SR., F, WASH
Allen, a senior forward from Kent, Wash., becomes the third player in Washington history, and the second in as many seasons to be named Pac-10 Player of the Year, joining Kevin Forrest (2006) and C.J. Klaas (2004). A two-time All-Pac-10 first team selection, Allen finishes the regular season leading the Conference in the following categories: points (24), goals (11) and goals per game (0.58), and is also tied for first in game-winning goals (4). He was named Pac-10 Player of the Week on Oct. 30 as he scored the team's lone goal in a 1-0 upset of UCLA. Allen has helped guide the Huskies to their 19th NCAA appearance as the team hosts Portland this weekend in first-round action.

PAC-10 Co-PLAYER OF THE YEAR -- ANDREW JACOBSON, SR., MF, CAL
Jacobson, a senior midfielder from Palo Alto, Calif., becomes the third player in California history to be named Pac-10 Player of the Year, joining Calen Carr (2005) and Josh Saunders (2002). A three-time All-Pac-10 first team selection, Jacobson finishes the regular season ranking fourth in the Conference in shots (41), fifth in shots per game (2.28) and seventh in assists (3). Having started and played in all 18 games this season, he is tied for second on the team with three goals and 14 shots on goal. Jacobson has helped guide the Bears to two consecutive Pac-10 titles, having earned a league record of 6-3-1 this season.

PAC-10 FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR -- BOBBY WARSHAW, MF/F, STAN
Warshaw, a freshman midfielder/forward from Mechanicsburg, Pa., becomes the first player in Stanford history to be named Pac-10 Freshman of the Year. A second team All-Pac-10 selection, Warshaw ranks second in the Conference in shots (50), fourth in shots per game (2.78), seventh in points (12), eighth in points per game (0.67), seventh in goals (5), eighth in goals per game (0.28), and is tied for fifth in game-winning goals (2). Warshaw and his teammates finished tied for second in the Pac-10 with a 4-4-2 record.

PAC-10 COACH OF THE YEAR -- KEVIN GRIMES, CALIFORNIA
For the third time in as many years, California head coach Kevin Grimes was named Pac-10 Coach of the Year. In his eighth year at the helm of the Golden Bear program, Grimes has led Cal to back-to-back Pac-10 championships and seven consecutive NCAA appearances. This season, he guided Cal to a 6-3-1 Conference record, an 11-5-2 overall record, and a first-round matchup with UC Davis in the College Cup this weekend. The Bears finished the regular season leading the Conference in assists (28), assists per game (1.56), goals allowed (12), goals against average (0.64) and shutouts (9). In addition, they rank fifth in the nation in save percentage (0.868), and 21st nationally in shutout percentage (0.50). The most decorated coach in Conference history, this is the fourth honor of Grimes' career.
